Spring is here, and our creative spaces around the community are hopping with fun things to see and do! As the weather warms up, theaters, schools, and arts organizations across the Athens area are preparing exciting productions and performances for audiences of all ages.

Here’s a list of events and productions that are happening around the Athens, Georgia area over the next few months. From student musicals to live music showcases, there are so many opportunities to support local performers and celebrate the arts in our community.

Footloose – Oconee Youth Playhouse

Oconee Youth Playhouse will present the musical Footloose in late May. This energetic musical, based on the classic film, tells the story of a town where dancing is banned and the teenagers determined to bring music and movement back to their community.

OYP productions always feature talented young performers from across the area and are a great way to support youth theatre in Oconee County.

Bounce! – OCES Music Makers

The Music Makers at Oconee County Elementary School will perform Bounce! in April. This student production highlights the creativity and musical talents of OCES students as they bring this lively show to life.

Finding Nemo Jr. – MBES

Students at Malcom Bridge Elementary School will present Disney’s Finding Nemo Jr. in late April. Based on the beloved Pixar film, this musical adventure follows Marlin and Dory as they search the ocean for Nemo, meeting colorful characters along the way.

Descendants – OCHS

Oconee County High School will present the musical Descendants: The Musical later this month. This popular Disney musical brings together the children of classic Disney heroes and villains for a story about friendship, identity, and choosing your own path.

The SpongeBob Musical – NOHS

North Oconee High School will present The SpongeBob Musical at the end of March. This colorful and imaginative musical features characters from the beloved animated series and showcases an upbeat score written by a wide range of well-known artists.

Compass Community Productions

The **Compass Community homeschool group has two offerings this spring.

In April, see The Mostly True Tales of Robin Hood, a comedic retelling of the famous legend filled with adventure and humor.

And in May, they will present Disney’s Finding Nemo, bringing the heartwarming underwater story to the stage.

Full Moon School of Music Rockcital

Full Moon School of Music will present their biannual Rockcital on Saturday, April 25. These concerts feature student musicians performing rock and contemporary music in a live performance setting, giving young artists a chance to showcase their skills on stage.

Singin’ in the Rain – Athens Christian School

Athens Christian School will present Singin’ in the Rain in April. This classic musical comedy is based on the famous film and features memorable songs, energetic choreography, and a joyful celebration of Hollywood’s golden age.

Shrek Jr. – The Studio Athens

The Studio Athens will present Shrek the Musical Jr. at the historic Morton Theatre in May. This fun-filled family musical brings the beloved characters from the DreamWorks film to life with humor, heart, and lots of adventure.

Romeo and Juliet – UGA Theatre

University of Georgia will present Romeo and Juliet, adapted by Libby Grace Garrett, in April. This new interpretation of Shakespeare’s classic love story will be presented by UGA’s theatre department.
