Theatre Fostering Community
Our Mission
The Stage Oconee exists to provide family-friendly entertainment, nurture performers as they grow in their gifts, and train technical artists in a supportive, encouraging environment. Through theatre, we strive to build confidence, creativity, and community for audiences and participants of all ages.
Who We Are
The Stage Oconee is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community theatre located in Watkinsville, Georgia. Led by a dedicated Board of Directors and Administrative Team, our organization is supported by passionate creative teams and volunteers who love theatre and care deeply about the community we serve.
We believe theatre should be welcoming, educational, and meaningful — a place where students feel safe to try, grow, and shine.
What We Do
Each season, The Stage Oconee produces multiple family-friendly productions enjoyed by thousands of audience members from Oconee County and beyond. In addition to performances, we offer:
Theatre classes and workshops for students of all ages
Summer camps that combine creativity, learning, and fun
Space rentals for recitals, events, birthday parties, and performances
Community events designed to bring people together through the arts
Looking Ahead
As we continue to grow, our goals include expanding partnerships with local sponsors and donors, improving technical resources such as microphones and flooring, and increasing access to theatre through scholarships and community outreach.
If you’re interested in supporting our mission — as a donor, sponsor, or volunteer — we would love to connect with you.
Our Story
The Stage Oconee began in 2006 as Cornerstone Productions, founded by Justin and Sharon Carter. Motivated by a love of theatre and a desire to fill a gap in family-friendly, faith-based Christmas productions, they envisioned a place where families could perform together in an encouraging environment.
For the first five years, Cornerstone Productions staged one Christmas show annually. As community interest grew, so did the organization’s offerings.
In 2016, the company became Brightstone Productions, expanding to include MainStage productions, student production classes, adult-only shows, and summer camps. Over time, the season grew to include six to eight productions each year.
In December 2023, the organization embraced its current name — The Stage Oconee — reflecting both where we’ve been and where we’re going. More than just a venue, we are a stage where stories are told, talents are discovered, and community thrives. We are proud of our past and excited for a future filled with creativity, connection, and shared celebration.
Youth Protection & Safety
The safety of our students and participants is a top priority.
All employees and key volunteers undergo background checks and receive youth protection training tailored to our theatre environment. This includes practices such as the “Rule of Three,” which ensures that students and staff are always in groups of three or more.
If you would like additional information or a copy of our youth protection guidelines, please contact us at admin@thestageoconee.com.
